Ding Ding TV report – The Chair at Columbia University

On January 28th, the play “The Chair at Columbia University” was hosted at the De Anza College Visual and Performing Arts Center in Cupertino, California.

Ding Long, a Chinese worker, faced and overcame bias to achieve a remarkable feat – the establishment of Columbia University’s Chinese Studies program. Supported by Mayor Carpentier, Ding Long’s journey is a moving tale that unfolds in the play “The Chair at Columbia University” (《哥大的椅子》). This play depicts the inspiring story of Ding Long, who started as Mayor Carpentier’s servant but ultimately triumphed over prejudice and discrimination. The touching narrative showcases how Ding Long’s relentless determination, combined with Mayor Carpentier’s unwavering support, led to the creation of the Chinese Studies program at Columbia University. Directed by Zeng Chunhui and produced and written by Zhang Xi, this production is a collaboration with Chunhui Art Institute.
