California Ethnic Media Symposium, Expo and Awards – Remarkable day of convergence of ethnic media, leadership, and impactful journalism

On the last day of August 2023, over 150 Ethnic Media across California just converged to the State capital to meet top leaders and decision-makers from State and Federal agencies in a one-day conference. They focused on ways to build more inclusive communications, empowerment,and pressing issues confronting California.This dynamic event, a partnership between California Black Media and Ethnic Media Services, brought together the year’s standout leaders across media, government, and advocacy.

Government officials include:

Secretary of State Shirley Weber;
U.S. Census Director Robert Santos;
Department of Healthcare Services Director Michelle Baass;
California Department of Aging Susan DeMarois; Government Operations Secretary Amy Tong;
California Transportation Agency Secretary Toks Omishakin;
California Civil Rights Department Deputy Director of Strategic Initiatives Becky Monroe;
California Department of Social Services Director of Office of Equity Marcela Ruiz; and more.

The day culminated in a momentous awards celebration, honoring five trailblazing communications champions whose public awareness campaigns made the most effective use of ethnic media outlets, and 24 winners of the California Ethnic Media awards in 10 categories.
