Margaret Abe-Koga (Mountain View City Councilmember) announces plans to run for Santa Clara County Supervisor position

On March 5th, State Assemblymember Evan Low hosted Lunar New Year Fundraiser 2023 in San Jose.

Margaret Abe-Koga (Mountain View City Councilmember) attended the event and announced she plans to run for the Santa Clara County Supervisor position.

Margaret Abe-Koga was raised in San Mateo to immigrant parents from Japan. In 1998, she moved to Mountain View with her husband. She served her second term as Mayor, second term as Vice-Mayor in 2019, and her third term on the Mountain View City Council 2016-2020. Previously she served two terms on the Council from 2007-2015, as Vice-Mayor in 2008, and as Mayor in 2009; making her the first Asian Pacific American female to serve in those capacities in Mountain View’s history.

Prior to her election to the City Council, Margaret served on the City’s Human Relations Commission (HRC) from 2000-2004, and the Environmental Planning Commission from 2004-2006. Margaret Abe-Koga also served on as Santa Clara County Board of Education – Trustee for Area 1 2002-2004 and served as Board Vice-President in 2004. She was also the District Director for California State Assemblymember Evan Low of the 28th District in 2015 and a Congressional Aide to U.S. Congresswoman Anna Eshoo from 1993 to 1999.

She served in numerous capacities in the private and non-profit sectors, including as Government Affairs Manager for Synopsys Corporation; as Foundation and Corporate Relations Manager for Asian Americans for Community Involvement, as Associate Director of the Asian Pacific American Leadership Institute (APALI) at De Anza College; and owned and operated a small business.
