Democrat Lily Mei is the first elected woman and Asian American mayor in Fremont’s 65 year history. Besides being the first woman to serve as Fremont’s Mayor, Lily is also a working mom—bringing a unique perspective on the needs of women, children and families to her leadership role. She previously served two terms as a School Board Trustee before being elected to the City Council.
Lily’s style of leadership is to bring people of diverse philosophies together to solve our toughest issues – leading efforts to break affordable housing records in Fremont, facing down thousands of opponents to establish an innovative City homeless shelter with mobile hygiene, counseling, and job training services, and creating clean energy jobs. She embraces safe, welcoming communities in our diverse region as vitally important, due to her own experiences as the daughter of immigrants and someone who has experienced gender and ethnic discrimination herself.
