On February 22, 20 Chinese and Black reporters met on Zoom to brainstorm story ideas that push beyond the deepening negative stereotypes between Blacks and Asian-Pacific Americans. The convening was sponsored by EMS and California Black Media.
Helen Zia, veteran journalist and author of “Asian American Dreams: The Emergence of an American People,” shared these and other photos to illustrate the history that binds Black and Asian communities together. Zia and Paula Madison, former VP of NBC Universal, and author of “Finding Samuel Lowe: China, Jamaica and Harlem” about her Chinese grandfather, led off the exchange.
