US-born Olympic star Eileen Gu wins big air gold for China in Beijing
U.S. born but competing for China, skier Eileen Gu lived up to high expectations in her first Beijing Winter Olympics event. Gold medalist Eileen Gu of China celebrates during the medal ceremony for the women’s freestyle skiing big air at the 2022 Winter Olympics, Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2022, in Beijing.
“If people don’t believe me, if people don’t like me, then that’s their loss,” Gu said. “They’re never going to win the Olympics.”
Two years ago, she chose to represent China instead of the US at the 2022 Winter Olympics. After she won her first gold medal yesterday in the big air contest, this is what she had to say.
For an 18 old who is sitting on the top of the world, she is showing maturity way beyond her age.
