Chinese American Director Chloé Zhao, 1st Asian woman to win the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival and the People’s Choice Award at the Toronto International Film Festival
Nomadland is a 2020 American drama film directed, written, and edited by Chloé Zhao. It stars Frances McDormand as a woman who leaves home to travel around the American West. It also features David Strathairn in a supporting role, as well as real-life nomads Linda May, Swankie, and Bob Wells, as fictionalized versions of themselves. The film is based on the 2017 non-fiction book Nomadland: Surviving America in the Twenty-First Century by Jessica Bruder.
Nomadland premiered on September 11, 2020, at the Venice Film Festival, where it won the Golden Lion. It also won the People’s Choice Award at the Toronto International Film Festival. It had a one-week streaming limited release on December 4, 2020, and was released by Searchlight Pictures in selected IMAX theaters in the United States on January 29, 2021, and simultaneously in theaters and streaming digitally on Hulu on February 19, 2021.
The film garnered acclaim, becoming the third-highest rated of 2020 on Metacritic,[4] which found it to be the most frequently ranked by critics and publications as one of the best films of 2020. It was named one of the ten best films of 2020 by the National Board of Review and the American Film Institute, and received four nominations at the 78th Golden Globe Awards, winning Best Motion Picture – Drama and Best Director; in winning the latter award, Zhao became the second woman and the first Asian woman to do so.

赵婷（Chloé Zhao），1982年出生于中国北京，华语影视导演、编剧、制作人，毕业于纽约大学电影学院（硕士）。
2014年，自编自导个人首部电影《哥哥教我的歌》 该片入围第68届戛纳电影节金摄影机奖，她凭借该片获得第24届哥谭独立电影奖最佳女导演奖。2018年3月5日，凭借剧情电影《骑士》获得第70届戛纳国际电影节导演双周最佳电影奖 [1] 、第33届独立精神奖邦妮奖 [2] 。2020年，执导漫威电影《永恒族》 [3] ；9月13日，执导的电影《无依之地》获得第77届威尼斯国际电影节主竞赛单元-金狮奖 [4] 、第45届多伦多国际电影节人民选择奖 [5] ，本人凭借该片获得第45届多伦多国际电影节特别贡献奖年度导演奖 。
2021年1月，棕榈泉国际电影节宣布授予赵婷“年度导演”荣誉，她是首个获得此奖的女导演。3月1日，赵婷凭借《无依之地》获得第78届美国电影电视金球奖最佳导演，成为首位获得该奖项的中国女导演，同时是金球奖历史上首位获得最佳导演的亚裔女性、第二位获得该奖项的女导演 。
