New Year Musical Party “Men of Iron and the Golden Spike “

Dear Fellow Chinese Americans,
Happy New Year!
As we are approaching the end of an extraordinarily challenging 2020 and the beginning of 2021, UCA has specially arranged a New Year Musical Party, to express our gratitude to members of UCA family and to fellow Chinese Americans nationwide, who have sustained this UCA civic movement.
Please join us for a lively discussion and appreciation online with three renowned Chinese American artists, composer Zhou Long 周龙, librettist Su Wei 苏炜, and conductor Cai Jindong 蔡金冬, to learn about the history, the composition, and the impact of symphonic work “Men of Iron and the Golden Spike ” (交响清唱剧《铁汉金钉》), in memory of the 30, 000 or so Chinese laborers who helped build the Transcontinental Railroad more than 150 years ago. Excerpts of the recording will be presented during the special event.
Last year, that story of Chinese laborers building the transcontinental railroad came to life in an epic symphonic oratorio “Men of Iron and the Golden Spike”, a musical work extremely significant to Chinese American community, receiving its world premiere in October at Carnegie Hall and at the Bing Concert Hall at Stanford University.
