2020 National Civic Leadership Forum Celebrates Diversity and Unity in Virtual Space

The Asian American Unity Coalition (AAUC) and Civic Leadership USA (CLUSA) kick off the 2020 National Civic Leadership Forum (NCLF) on Saturday, September 12, 2020. With the theme of AAPI Unity: The Power of We, the week-long virtual conference will feature over 10 ethnic groups and over 100 AAPI leaders from across the country.

The 2020 NCLF invites all AAPI individuals and organizations as well as non-AAPI allies to register for the conference and download the mobile Whova app to fully experience this free community event. AAUC strives to create a welcoming environment to share resources and values and to build unity and trust. Through the Whova app, attendees will be able to:

  • Network and engage with others through the community board
  • Share photos and ask questions
  • Replay recorded sessions
  • Browse the online exhibition hall
  • Join the online auction and bid on items

The Opening Ceremony will take place at 10am PST on September 12th. Keynote speakers include Andrew Yang, former presidential candidate; Yumi Hogan, First Lady of the State of Maryland; and Jim Nielsen, California State Senator (R). Following the Opening Ceremony, there will be back-to-back live stream sessions from 12pm to 2pm PST.

Sunday, September 13th, Ty Bledsoe, Assistant Vice President – External & Legislative Affairs at a Fortune 10 Company, and Sean Do, award winning author of A Cloak of Good Fortune, will be giving keynote speeches, followed by three sessions of panels and workshops.

Throughout the week, learning sessions will take place from 4pm-6pm PST. From community health and diversity talks to mobilization planning and policy, there are a variety of topics so diverse in nature that it may be hard to choose which to attend! Every session will be recorded and posted for later viewing in case attendees miss or want to replay sessions. The Whova app will be open even after NCLF is over so attendees can browse through the recorded sessions, online exhibition hall, and the community board. Additionally, AAUC is hosting an online auction to raise funds for AAPI non-profits across the country. Attendees may donate an auction item free of charge by filling out the auction registration form.

On Friday, September 18th, NCLF celebrates our diverse cultural heritage through a mix of music, dance, poetry readings, and food! Four famous chefs will be streaming cook-along recipes and discussion, covering Chinese, Indian, Indonesian, and Vietnamese cuisine.

AAUC’s motto “Diversity is our Asset, Unity is our Power, Equality is our Goal,” shines throughout the week of programming. Each panel, speaker, presentation, and learning session falls under the sub themes of We are diverse, We are compassionate, We are empowered, and We are the future.
