Civil Discourse: Seeking Common Ground While Preserving Differences
America is divided, perhaps more so than any time in American history. Within the Chinese American community, we are also more divided than ever. It is normal and indeed healthy to have a spectrum of political views within our community. But what is NOT healthy is the animosity with which we are engaging with each other. In a democracy, compromise is key. With a diversity of opinions and interests, consensus is rare. This demands us all to have the exibility to give a little and take a little.
How can we restore civility in our political discourse? How can we disagree but still agreeable? How can we bridge the gap between us and work together to achieve common goals? We will have a panel of community activists, both from the right and the left, to engage in a discussion of the above topics. We are hoping this dialogue can heal the wound and bridge our divide.
