The Industrial Technology Research Institute is a new form of research and development (R&D) organization, which has come with the wave of emerging industries and the transition of the economic structure. Jiangsu Industrial Technology Research Institute (JITRI) was established in December 2013 by Jiangsu Provincial Government, which helps industries utilize the state-of-the-art technology to enhance their competitiveness in market..
Supported and organized by Jiangsu Provincial Government. JITRI is chartered with the crucial role to promote and support the industrial technology research and commercialization of the advanced technologies that may significantly impact the economic development of Jiangsu.
JITRI focuses on bridging the gap between fundamental technology research and their commercialization by taking on industrial technology researches where industries are incapable of, universities are unwilling to, and the government is unable to do. It further focuses on researches that serve the needs stemming from economic structure transformation and the purposes of industrial innovation and market-oriented product development
Until now, JITRI is comprised of 24 independent research institutes and 6 industrial technology innovation centers covering five areas. There are more than 5200 staff, including 2500 researchers. The R&D funding was about US$ 300 million annually.
Since the establishment, the specified institutes of JITRI have transferred more than 1800 technologies to the industries, while providing technical services for more than 8600 companies. The R & D activities have also resulted in more than 1800 patents and more than 260 start-ups.
The President manages the overall operation of JITRI under the guidance of JITRI Council, including the management of staff, projects and funding, selection of new research institutes, business coaching and performance assessment for existing institutes, etc. Each specialized institute under the umbrella of JITRI can
be an independent organization or a R&D enterprise. Specialized Institutes research activities will be market-oriented, and the research requirements come from the real-life applications and will be adopted by the enterprises and other organizations for practical applications. Industrial Technology Innovation Center is established as a new R&D organization, jointly supported by JITRI and local municipal government.
