Asian American Unity Coalition Goes Completely Virtual for 2020 National Civic Leadership Forum from September 12 to September 20
For its 2020 National Civic Leadership Forum (NCLF), Asian American Unity Coalition (AAUC) celebrates AAPI Unity: The Power of We in a completely virtual format. In partnership with Civic Leadership USA (CLUSA), the 9-day conference creates a community platform for all AAPI organizations leaders to interact, collaborate, and learn from each other. This year’s event builds off the momentum generated from the 2019 NCLF held in Washington, D.C. “We are creating a virtual conference with all the bells and whistles and fanfare,” said AAUC President, SK Lo. For the first time, AAUC is utilizing digital tools like Whova, Zoom, polls, social media, and more to provide an open forum for AAPI leaders, youth, and community members. This year’s virtual platform is built from the bottom-up with proposal submissions from our diverse multicultural groups and all AAPI organizations and individuals. AAUC believes that with the “Power of We,” our community will build trust and unity and make a difference in 2020 and beyond. Based on grassroots feedback, the conference is organized into four main topics:
● We are diverse
● We are compassionate
● We are empowered
● We are the future
The 2020 NCLF will feature over 10 ethnic groups and nearly 100 AAPI leaders from across the country throughout the dozens of workshops, panels, and keynote speeches. AAUC is excited to offer an online exhibition hall, online auction, cultural performances, and cooking demonstrations by famous Asian chefs. Confirmed guests include Andrew Yang, former presidential candidate; Ro Khanna, US Representative (CA); Ty Bledsoe, Assistant Vice President – External & Legislative Affairs at a Fortune 10 Company; Jennifer Carnahan, Chairwoman for the Republican Party of Minnesota; Evan Low, California State Assemblymember; and more. “If you want to go far, fly together,” said CLUSA Executive Director Anthony Ng. The 2020 NCLF welcomes all AAPI individuals and organizations as well as non-AAPI allies, corporations, policymakers, elected officials, and community members to attend, connect, and build solidarity.
On September 5, 2020, AAUC will be hosting a preview party for VIPs, with the official opening ceremony being held on September 12, 2020 at 10am PST. In addition to the many volunteers working behind the scenes, we have three teams of consultants supporting our event management, broadcasting, and marketing. About AAUC
Asian American Unity Coalition (AAUC) came into existence through the historic conference
held in Alaska in 2018 in which 12 unique AAPI organizations and 20 leaders representing 5
major ethnicities: Chinese, Indian, Philippines, Korean and Japanese Americans were present.
The group came together to define the core values and the platform of AAUC.
About Civic Leadership USA
The mission of CLUSA is to empower and organize the Asian Pacific Islander American (APIA) communities, to create a national network of civic-minded organizations and leaders and work in unity. CLUSA has a national network thru our grantees nationwide and resource development (monetary & human resource), access to APIA grant maker network as well as Civic leadership network database and Video training library in civic leadership & engagement. It provides grant programs in civic leadership forum, civic leadership internship, capacity building, technical assistance in Media/Web Dev/Resource Dev/Strategic planning. CLUSA will work with AAUC to establish a pipeline of APIA candidates to run for public offices in USA and to forge a national APIA coalition in civic engagement in USA.
